Frequently asked questions
- How do you tell a real AI investor from a tourist?
- Deals, not decks. Every investor here has closed at least one AI deal in the last twelve months, and the median is 3.1. A partner whose website mentions AI but whose last cheque went to a marketplace in 2024 is not in this list, because they will take your meeting and then pass.
- Does thesis actually matter, or will any AI investor look?
- It matters more here than in most categories. An investor whose thesis is infrastructure will struggle to underwrite a vertical application, and vice versa — the diligence questions are different and the comparables are different. 198 of these are applied-AI focused and 131 are infrastructure; pitching across that line is the most common wasted meeting.
- Are generalist funds with a few AI deals included?
- Twenty-two of them, tagged as generalists. They are worth knowing about because they are often less crowded than the dedicated AI funds, but they will move slower and lean harder on your traction than on the technical story.
- Is deal count a proxy for how easy they are to reach?
- Roughly, in the opposite direction to what you would hope. The 78 investors with seven or more AI deals in a year are the most contested inboxes in the category. The 143 with a single deal are often more responsive and equally capable of writing the cheque.
- How current is the deal data?
- Refreshed on a rolling 30-day cycle, same as the rest of the record, with the last pass on 13 August 2026. A round announced after that date will not appear until the next one.
- Do you cover corporate and strategic AI investors?
- Some, though they sit in the generalist and infrastructure buckets rather than having their own. Strategic money carries conditions that most early founders underestimate, so it is worth treating those conversations differently from a straight financial round.
