Frequently asked questions
- Why filter on rounds led rather than rounds participated in?
- Because participation is cheap and leading is a commitment. 148 of 294 have led in the last twelve months — the others have appeared on cap tables without setting terms. If you are raising, a list of participants tells you who might follow, not who might price the round.
- What does "regulatory comfort" mean in practice?
- Whether a fund will underwrite a company that holds a licence or a charter. 50 here explicitly avoid balance-sheet or regulated exposure and will only look at infrastructure, and 63 have actually backed an own-charter company. Pitching a charter story to the first group wastes both parties' time and this is the field that prevents it.
- Has fintech investing recovered since 2023?
- Selectively. Cheque sizes at the top compressed and the $10M+ bucket is the smallest here at 51, while first-cheque activity held up — 39% will still lead at pre-seed or seed. The practical read is that early fintech is fundable and growth fintech is not, which is the opposite of 2021.
- Are these firms or individuals?
- Individuals, tagged with their firm. Fintech deals get decided by a specific partner with sector conviction far more than by a firm-wide thesis, so a firm-level list routes your intro to whoever answers rather than whoever cares.
- Why is this the smallest directory in the set?
- Because genuine fintech specialists are rare. Plenty of generalists have done a fintech deal; far fewer will lead one, understand a sponsor-bank relationship, and take a call about interchange economics. Padding this to 800 by including every generalist who once participated would make it useless.
- How do I use the sub-vertical tag without over-filtering?
- Treat it as where they have proven, not where they will only look. A payments-focused partner will take an insurtech meeting; they will just index harder on distribution than on underwriting. Filter for the warm intro, not to exclude.
