Frequently asked questions
- Why measure reports managed rather than trusting the title?
- Because 68 of these "executives" have no direct reports at all. At a 15-person company a VP title is often compensation rather than scope. Sorting by reports managed tells you whether you are talking to someone who runs an organisation or someone who is one — and the two buy, hire and switch jobs on entirely different timescales.
- Which function is most worth reaching?
- Depends what you sell, but revenue leaders are the largest group at 142 and the shortest path to budget in B2B software — a CRO carries a number and can justify spend against it. Engineering leaders control more seats but usually spend through a central IT budget they do not own.
- What does "first in their seat" tell me?
- That 33% are inheriting nothing. No incumbent vendor relationships, no process to defend, and typically a twelve-month mandate to build one. That is the most reachable cohort here for anyone selling category-defining tooling, and it decays fast — after the first year they have chosen.
- Why does revenue band matter more than headcount for SaaS?
- Because software companies scale revenue and headcount at wildly different rates. A 30-person company at $12M ARR and a 200-person company at the same revenue are different businesses with different problems, and the ARR band is the one that predicts their budget.
- Do these people appear in the decision makers directory too?
- Some do, and the two lists answer different questions. This one is organised around what someone owns — right for recruiting, partnerships and executive outreach. The decision makers directory is organised around who can authorise a purchase, which is frequently a less senior person with procurement authority.
- How is the hiring signal different from a company careers page?
- It is a requisition attached to that executive's function within 60 days, not any open role at the company. 54% is high, and it concentrates in the $1M-$10M band where companies hire their first specialists — the same cohort that buys the most tooling per head.
